Thailand Commerce Ministry official hoping improvement of Thai rice export specially in African markets
Thai government Ministry of Commerce official said on Tuesday that they are hoping to achieve rice export target of 7.5 million metric tonnes in the current fiscal year, despite a sharp fall in first quarter shipments, as sales to the US have increased
Head of the Ministry of commerce foreign trade department Arada Fuangtong told reporters that the commerce ministry will ensure rice shipments can be increased and continue by seeking government to government deals with different countries, including China, and now will push for exports to African countries market as well,
Ms. Arada Fuangtong, told reporters, “We haven’t adjusted the rice export target of 7.5 million tonnes… we’re still hoping it will be achieved,”
Ms Arada said, USA is big market of Thai Rice, Thailand exporting Fragrant jasmine rice exports to the United States along with other rice, USA have imposed new tariff on rice.
Thailand is the second second-largest exporter of the rice after India, but it has recorded a 30% annual fall in rice exports in the first quarter of 2025 following the resumption of exports from India.
Thai Rice Exporters Association said last month that full-year rice exports could fall below the 7.5 million tonnes target.
According to the TPSO (Trade Policy and Strategy Office) several Thai products, including pet food and rice, are poised to gain a larger market share in America amid escalating US-China trade tensions.
